About

Welcome to the Park

If you asked me 10 years ago if I would be doing what I now say is the very best job in hockey; covering the prospects then I would have laughed at you.

But that is what I get to do now but this is no one man band. Since 2004, Prospect Park has grown to include media folk whether they worked for a team or as part of the media that covered prospects.

Prospect Park includes ticket takers, coaches, scouts, general managers, and even fans of other teams. It is also your fellow fan who lives where the prospects play and sends in a game report or gives us a heads up about something happening.

It is also the prospects themselves and their families who’s support over the years has made this place possible.

When I say “the independent source” it means we speak of and for the prospects not the team that drafted him or the team he is playing for. We care about the prospects as you are talking 18-24 young men who are chasing their dream of playing the NHL.

But just as important is your own participation in making this happen as you folks remind me of what I miss or things you would like to see asked. The prospects themselves read this place so most times when you say something they have already contacted me with the answer before I can ask.

The 2010-2011 season makes an expansion for what we do here as we are going to add the New York Islander prospects to who we cover. This is what we believe is a natural progression for us but also as hockey fans we understand that when the Rangers and Islanders are playing meaningful games then the NHL as well as hockey wins.

The Islanders and Rangers have taken different paths but we see much better days ahead for both franchises thanks to the improved quality of the prospects in their system. Now we have to hope that both teams do a strong job in developing their youth.
